COP28 and our CEO’s take

Today COP28, the world’s major climate conference, kicked off in Dubai.
Our CEO, Giovanni Di Pascale, shared his views on the current energy transition and the crucial role that Storage systems will increasingly play in the future.

According to the British website DriveElectric, Italy ranks sixth in the world in solar electricity consumption from domestic electricity production. Their study shows a solar PV production of 25.1 TWh out of a total of 287.2 TWh in electricity generation. These figures underscore how much our Bel Paese believes in the ongoing energy transition, but they also highlight a yet-to-be-expressed potential in the shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy. Expanding our horizon beyond our borders, the EU's interest in the sector is clear. For example, € 1,700 million in incentives were recently approved for constructing agrivoltaic installations with an installable capacity of approximately 1 GW. This funding comes mainly from the Recovery Plan (€ 1,100 mn) to support the decarbonization goals of both Europe and Italy as outlined in the Green Deal. Additionally, funding of the CER decree received green light, providing € 5.7 billion in financial support, partly financed by the PNRR. At Altea Green Power - AGP, we are committed every day to developing projects from renewable sources, including agrivoltaic, agrisolar, and energy communities. However, our real bet is on hastag#storage systems and the storage and conservation of the energy produced. The numbers speak for themselves: Germany alone, for example, wasted more than 6,100 GWh in 2020 - roughly the total electricity consumption of Liechtenstein in the same year! The Italian storage market is one of the most dynamic in Europe, though most existing plants provide short-term storage. New long-term storage solutions, however, are still few. Yet, I am confident that we have what it takes to be leaders in this area. At Altea Green Power, we believe this strategic model is key to achieving the Community target. That’s why, by 2026, we are setting the bold goal of developing 5.5 GW of storage projects in Italy. But we have no intention of stopping there; we envision a future where everyone, from individuals to companies, can generate all the energy they need on their own!”
